Triumph reveals new Tiger 1200 with 158PS and front and rear radar, India launch set for March 2027

Triumph pulled the covers off the updated Tiger 1200 on October 27, with 8PS more power, Showa semi-active suspension that lowers itself at a stop and a 19-inch front wheel on every variant, including the GT Pro and Rally Explorer coming to India in March 2027.

Triumph announced the new Tiger 1200 on October 27, 2026, the biggest rework of its flagship adventure tourer since the T-Plane triple arrived. The 1,160cc engine now makes 158PS at 9,250rpm and 130Nm at 6,750rpm, which is 8PS more than before with peak torque arriving lower down. Triumph also says the gearbox and shaft drive have been made smoother, a fair complaint about the outgoing bike.

The range stays at four variants. GT Pro and Rally Pro get a 20 litre tank, GT Explorer and Rally Explorer get 30 litres. Kerb weight runs from 250kg to 268kg depending on the version.

The 21-inch front wheel is gone

The headline chassis change is that all four variants now run a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel. The old Rally models used a 21-inch front, so this is Triumph deciding that most Tiger 1200 owners ride on tarmac. Suspension travel is 200mm at both ends, with 49mm Showa upside down forks and the new Showa EERA HEIGHTFLEX semi-active setup.

That system does something useful for Indian riders. The rear automatically drops by 30mm when you come to a stop and lifts back up as you pull away. Standard seat height is 810mm to 860mm, and with the optional low seat plus the automatic function, Triumph quotes 790mm at a standstill. On a 268kg bike at a Bengaluru signal, that matters more than another 8PS.

Electronics move up a level too. There is a 7-inch Bosch HD touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bosch radar at both the front and the rear. That brings adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind spot assist and emergency brake assist. Braking is by twin 320mm front discs and a 282mm rear. Service intervals are quoted at 16,000km or 12 months. Heated seats and heated grips are standard on both India-bound variants.

What it means for Indian buyers

Triumph has confirmed the new Tiger 1200 comes to India in March 2027 in two forms, GT Pro and Rally Explorer, with prices to be announced closer to the start of bookings. The outgoing MY24 bikes start at ₹19.39 lakh ex-showroom, and the new generation is expected to sit above that. The GT Pro gets cast aluminium wheels, 250kg kerb weight and seven riding modes. The Rally Explorer gets spoked wheels, the 30 litre tank, 268kg and an eighth mode, Off-road Pro.

Overseas pricing gives a sense of where this sits. In the UK the GT Pro is £18,295 and the Rally Explorer £20,575, with deliveries from December 2026. German deliveries start in March 2027.

The Tiger 1200 is a low volume halo bike in India, built up from Thailand and sold alongside the much bigger selling Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. Its job is to take on the BMW R 1300 GS and the Ducati Multistrada in showrooms, and radar plus a self-lowering rear is Triumph answering BMW directly on equipment. There is more coming as well. Triumph has said the next generation Tiger 900 gets its global debut on December 15, 2026, with an India launch expected after that in the first half of 2027.

That auto lowering rear at a stop sounds genuinely smart for a 268kg bike in city traffic, way more useful than the extra 8PS honestly. But March 2027 is such a long wait for India, almost 18 months out. Wonder if the radar kit and that 7 inch Bosch screen will actually justify the price jump over the current Tiger.
