A 163 unit gap at the top

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India sold 7,34,566 two-wheelers in October 2026, just ahead of Hero MotoCorp's 7,34,403 units. The gap is 163 units, smaller than a single day's production at either company's biggest plant. Both numbers cover domestic sales plus exports for the month, according to data reported by Rushlane and Autocar India from the companies' own dispatch figures.

Honda grew 12.91 percent year on year, up from 6,50,596 units in October 2025. Hero grew faster, 15.51 percent, from 6,36,039 units a year earlier. TVS Motor Company was the fastest of the big four, up 27.71 percent to 6,70,679 units. Bajaj Auto sold 5,01,194 units, up 13.31 percent. Suzuki Motorcycle India sold 1,46,279 units, up 13.17 percent, and Royal Enfield sold 1,33,442 units, up 6.80 percent.

Hero still wins at home

Look past the combined total and the picture changes. Hero's domestic sales were 7,05,084 units, clearly ahead of Honda's 6,64,831 units. Hero remains the bigger seller inside India, where its commuter motorcycles, the Splendor and HF series, still dominate rural and semi urban showrooms.

Honda's total only edged past Hero because of exports. Honda shipped out 69,735 units in October, more than double Hero's 29,319. Honda sells scooters and commuters like the Activa and Shine across Africa, Latin America and South Asia, and that export book is what closed the gap and then some.

TVS told a similar story from the export side. Its overseas sales of 1,55,915 units were up sharply, and combined with strong domestic growth of 22.09 percent, that pushed TVS past Bajaj in total volume for the month. Bajaj Auto remains India's largest two-wheeler exporter by absolute units among the four, even though TVS grew its export book faster this October.

What this means for a commuter buyer

None of this changes what a two-wheeler costs or how it rides in an Indian showroom this month. But the numbers say the festive season bought real volume. October covers Dussehra and the run-up to Diwali, the period when most Indian families buy their new commuter bike or scooter, and every company in this list posted double digit domestic growth except Royal Enfield, whose 650cc twins sit outside the mass commuter segment this data tracks.

For a buyer walking into a Hero, Honda or TVS dealership this month, the practical read is simple. Waiting periods on the Splendor, Activa and Jupiter family bikes are likely to be longer than usual because festive demand is real, not just talk from the showroom floor. None of the companies have announced price changes tied to this sales data, and Moto365 will report any that are confirmed separately.

Neither Hero, Honda nor TVS has issued a standalone statement explaining the specific 163 unit gap. The figures come from monthly dispatch data each company reports to dealers and that trade publications compile every month.
