Mercedes-Benz GLCA locally built electric GLC, priced close to the diesel
Mercedes-Benz India launched the GLC Electric on November 4, 2026, priced at ₹78.50 lakh ex-showroom for the single variant on offer, the GLC 400 4Matic. The company says the car is assembled at its Chakan plant near Pune, making it the fastest Mercedes-Benz global model to reach India as a locally built car, arriving just six months after sales started in Europe.
The ex-showroom price puts the electric GLC within striking distance of the petrol and diesel versions of the same SUV. Mercedes-Benz says the premium works out to just ₹1.5 lakh over the petrol variant and ₹50,000 over the diesel variant, a far smaller gap than buyers are used to seeing between combustion and electric versions of the same car. Local assembly is the reason the company can hold the price this close.

What you get for the money
The GLC 400 4Matic runs a 94kWh battery pack with a claimed WLTP range of 711 km on a full charge. On a 330kW DC fast charger, Mercedes-Benz says the car adds 300 km of range in 10 minutes. A 22kW AC charger is included with the car as standard. The dual electric motor setup drives all four wheels and is rated at 482.4bhp and 800Nm of torque.
Inside, the car gets the 39.1 inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which Mercedes-Benz calls the largest display it has fitted to any of its cars, along with a Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos and Level 2 driver assistance features. Outside, an AMG design pack brings an electric version of the AMG grille, 20 inch AMG wheels, aluminium running boards and connected tail lamps, kit that is either optional or unavailable on the regular petrol and diesel GLC.
Bookings and who it will compete with
Mercedes-Benz says it had already crossed 1,000 bookings for the GLC Electric before launch, and that the car is sold out through March 2027. Deliveries began around Diwali.
For now the GLC Electric has no direct rival at its price and spec in India. The closest competitor, the BMW iX3, is not due in the country until 2027. Buyers cross shopping in the ₹70 lakh to ₹80 lakh electric SUV bracket today would otherwise look at the Kia EV6 or the Volvo EC40, though neither matches the GLC Electric on battery size or claimed range. Once the iX3 arrives, it will be the first like for like contest in this segment in India.
For an Indian buyer, the story here is less about the car and more about the price. A locally assembled Mercedes-Benz EV undercutting the usual import led premium on electric luxury SUVs is new, and it sets a marker for how BMW prices the iX3 when it lands next year.
