How to look up two-wheeler sales yourself on India's Vahan dashboard

Almost every monthly bike and scooter sales number comes out of one government database, and reading it yourself takes about five minutes once you know which filters matter.

The short answer: go to analytics.parivahan.gov.in, open the Vahan Public Dashboard or the Vahan Public Report, set the category group to Two Wheeler, pick your state and month, then filter by maker. That is the same pool of data FADA, brokerages and most news reports draw on when they tell you how many scooters India bought last month.

One thing to sort out first. The old address many of us had bookmarked, vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahan4dashboard, now carries a notice saying the new Public Dashboard is available and that the Vahan4Dashboard will be discontinued after 15 August 2026. That same page states 36 of 36 states and union territories run Vahan 4, across 1,468 of 1,469 registration offices. The data has not changed, only the door you walk in through.

What you can filter, and what you cannot

The public dashboard goes deeper than most people expect. You can split by type (transport or non-transport), by category group, where Two Wheeler sits alongside buses, goods vehicles and tractors, and by vehicle class, with more than 70 classes listed. Fuel type runs to more than 30 options including Pure EV and strong hybrid. There are also filters for emission norms from Bharat Stage I to VI, owner type, registration status such as active or scrapped, and location down to a single RTO. The Vahan Public Report adds a maker filter and lets you pick a calendar year or a financial year, a month, or a custom date range, with a note on the page that the range cannot exceed one year.

What you will not find is a model filter. You can pull Royal Enfield's or Ather's total for a month in Karnataka, but not the Classic 350 or the Rizta on its own. Model-level splits come from company disclosures, not from Vahan.

Why two people quote different numbers for the same month

Vahan counts registrations, not invoices. A scooter billed by a dealer on 29 September and registered on 2 October belongs to October in this data, which is why festive-month comparisons can look strange.

It is also a live database, not a closed ledger. FADA's September 2026 retail set was collated on 3 October 2026 from 1,468 of 1,469 RTOs. Pull the same month three weeks later and the figure can be higher, because registrations keep getting keyed in. FADA even labels its festive-period releases provisional for this reason. Coverage gaps are real too. In FADA's Navratri 2026 provisional data, compiled as of 21 October 2026, Telangana registrations for three-wheelers, commercial vehicles and tractors were not available for the period.

So if you are comparing your pull against a published figure, match three things: the month, the extraction date and the geography. Otherwise you are comparing two different photographs of a moving queue.

September 2026 is a good test case. Two-wheeler retail came in at 17,90,188 units, up 33.08 per cent year on year, with Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India on 4,68,789 units (26.19 per cent share), Hero MotoCorp on 4,34,280 (24.26 per cent), TVS Motor on 3,64,640 (20.37 per cent) and Bajaj Auto on 1,66,112 (9.28 per cent).

The electric line is where Vahan earns its keep, because the fuel filter lets you track it without waiting for anyone's press release. Electric two-wheelers were 11.58 per cent of September retail, against 10.68 per cent in August 2026 and 8.17 per cent in September 2025. In volume, electric two-wheeler retail was 2,07,314 units in September 2026, up 88.67 per cent on the year.

Two practical habits help. Save the exact filter combination you used, since a different vehicle class selection can change a maker's total. And remember that anything exported, or not registered in India, never appears here at all, which is why a company's own dispatch figure and its Vahan number are two separate things.

No model filter is annoying, so this won't tell me how many Classic 350s actually sold, only total RE numbers for the state. Still useful to sanity check dealer talk though. Anyone tried matching RTO level data to actual waiting period in your city, does it even correlate?

Same issue for me, state level RE total mixes Classic, Bullet, Hunter, everything. Was hoping to track my own model's momentum but this just gives the whole brand bucket. Guess I'll wait for RE's own investor decks for anything model specific.
