How often a Royal Enfield 350 needs servicing, and what gets replaced when

Royal Enfield's own maintenance table puts the first service at 0.5k km or 1.5 months and then a visit every 5,000 km or six months, with the chain and oil level needing attention far more often than that.

The short answer is in Royal Enfield's own periodic maintenance table, which the company publishes for free on its Digital Quickstart pages. For the Meteor 350, the table runs across eleven columns: 0.5k, 5k, 10k, 15k, 20k, 25k, 30k, 35k, 40k, 45k and 50k km, matched to 1.5, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54 and 60 months. Whichever comes first is the one that counts. So after the running-in service you are due at the workshop every 5,000 km or every six months.

Two jobs come up much sooner than that. The table says to check the engine oil level every 1,000 km and top up as required, and to clean and lubricate the drive chain every 1,000 km, with a clean, lubricate and adjust every 5,000 km. If you ride a 650 twin, the chain interval is tighter. The Classic 650 page asks for the chain to be cleaned, lubricated and adjusted every 500 km or earlier, or after riding in wet, dusty or muddy conditions.

What happens at each visit

On the Meteor 350 table, the engine oil is marked for replacement at the 0.5k column and then alternates between replacement and a level inspection as you go down the row, so a full oil change does not happen at every single service. The air filter element is cleaned at the early services and replaced from the 10k column onward, and more often if you ride in dusty conditions. Inlet and exhaust tappet settings are inspected and adjusted from the 10k column. The spark plug is replaced at the 20k and 40k columns. Brake fluid is inspected at each service and replaced at the 20k and 40k columns.

One line matters for anyone who rides very little. After the first service, the engine oil and engine oil filter replacement is mandatory every 12 months even if the motorcycle has not covered the specified kilometres. A bike that does 2,000 km a year still needs its yearly oil change.

Getting a price before you ride in

Royal Enfield does not publish one national service price, and it does not need to: its service page carries a Service Cost Calculator where you pick the motorcycle, the variant, your state, your city and the service interval, and it returns an estimate for that next service. Because it asks for state and city, the number you get is specific to where you will hand the bike over. Use it before you book, then ask the service advisor to confirm the job card against it.

The warranty and AMC rules tied to the schedule

Skipping services is not just a mechanical risk. Royal Enfield's extended warranty terms state that for entitlement, all the recommended services must be availed as per the maintenance schedule in the operator's manual, through both the standard and the extended warranty period. So keep every stamp and every invoice.

On price and timing of the cover itself, the extended warranty is sold at one rate within 180 days from the date of purchase and another rate after that, and can be bought up to 10 days before the standard warranty ends. Royal Enfield's Ride Sure page for the extended warranty says it adds two additional years or 20,000 km, whichever comes earlier, and that buying six months in advance carries a price benefit.

The Annual Maintenance Contract is a separate product and has a hard deadline. Royal Enfield says it must be bought from an authorised dealership along with the motorcycle or before the first service or 500 km, whichever is earlier. There are three tiers: Silver covers preventive maintenance, Gold adds quality defects and wear and tear, and Platinum adds roadside assistance, tyres, batteries and pick-up and drop. Rupee prices are not listed on the site, so ask the dealer for the current card for your model before you take delivery, because after the first service that door is shut.

Chain lube every 1000km is something I genuinely don't do, mostly just wipe and spray whenever it looks dry. The 12 month mandatory oil change bit is useful though, my Classic 350 barely touches 3000km a year so I was assuming the km mark decides everything. Guess I'm overdue by that logic.

Same boat as Pranav, my Classic does maybe 2500km a year so it's the calendar that decides, not the odo. Was tracking only km so far, need to start logging dates properly. Anyone know if skipping that mandatory yearly oil change voids warranty or just shortens engine life quietly.
