The Bajaj Chetak has crossed 10 lakh cumulative retail sales in India. Government Vahan registration data, reported on November 6, 2026, put the exact figure at 10,01,135 units sold since the electric scooter's launch in January 2020.

That makes Bajaj Auto the third Indian electric two wheeler maker to cross the 10 lakh mark, after Ola Electric and TVS Motor Company got there first. For a scooter that started as a slow seller next to the Ola S1 and TVS iQube, it is a turnaround built almost entirely in the last two years.

How the Chetak got here

The sales break down by calendar year like this: 26,758 units in 2022, 75,112 in 2023, 2,01,167 in 2024 and 2,79,691 in 2025. In the current calendar year, up to November 6, 2026, the Chetak has already sold 4,12,409 units, more than its entire 2025 tally.

Bajaj's market share has climbed with it. The Chetak held just 4.04 percent of the electric two wheeler market in 2022. That rose to 8.32 percent in 2023, 16.56 percent in 2024, 20.83 percent in 2025 and now stands at 22.50 percent for 2026 so far, according to the same Vahan based reporting.

October 2026 was the single biggest month in the Chetak's history. Bajaj retailed 49,170 units of the scooter that month, its highest ever monthly number, as the wider electric two wheeler market also hit a record with retail volumes above 2.24 lakh units across all brands.

Where it sits against Ather, Ola and Hero Vida

The Chetak is now the number two electric scooter in India by 2026 year to date volume, behind TVS and its iQube, Ntorq and other electric models. Autocar Professional's reporting, also based on Vahan data, puts TVS Motor's 2026 year to date electric two wheeler retail at 4,81,704 units against the Chetak's 4,12,409. Ather Energy follows with 2,99,778 units for the year so far, Hero Vida with 2,07,583 units, and Ola Electric well back at 1,21,061 units, a brand that once led this market by a wide margin.

For a Chetak buyer in India, none of this changes the price or the spec sheet directly. But it says the scooter now has the sales base, the parts network and the resale pool that come with being a top two seller, not a niche buy. Bajaj has been selling the Chetak through its existing Pulsar and Dominar dealerships rather than a separate EV only network, which has let it scale distribution faster than some of the standalone EV brands managed.

The bigger story is the reshuffle at the top of India's electric scooter market. Ola Electric, once the runaway number one, has fallen behind TVS, Bajaj and Ather on year to date volumes for 2026, while legacy two wheeler makers with existing dealer networks, Bajaj and TVS among them, have pulled ahead of the start-ups that created this market in the first place.
