SIAM's 15 October release puts Q2 FY27 domestic sales at a record 83.88 lakh units, with PVs up 30.7 percent

The industry body's July to September 2026 numbers show passenger vehicles at 13.61 lakh units, but the jump sits on a weak quarter from a year ago, when buyers were waiting for the 22 September 2025 GST revision.

What SIAM filed on 15 October

SIAM published its Q2 FY2027 sales performance release on 15 October 2026, covering July to September 2026. Domestic sales across the main segments came to 83.88 lakh units, up 18.2 percent year on year, which PTI reported as the highest ever second quarter for every major segment. Passenger vehicles did 13.61 lakh units, up 30.7 percent. Two-wheelers did 64.33 lakh units, up 15.2 percent, three-wheelers 2.85 lakh units, up 23.6 percent, and commercial vehicles 3.09 lakh units, up 28.7 percent.

Inside the PV number, SIAM's release says utility vehicles were 68 percent of all PV sales and grew 34.2 percent, while passenger cars grew 24.9 percent. Scooters grew 27.7 percent against 7.4 percent for motorcycles. Exports were the one soft spot for cars, with PV exports down 5.2 percent to 2.29 lakh units. SIAM's director general Rajesh Menon said this was the highest ever Q2 for all segments, and president Shenu Agarwal pointed to GST 2.0 affordability, rural demand and a gradual replacement cycle.

Read the base before you read the growth

These are factory dispatches to dealers, not retails, and the 30.7 percent PV figure is flattered by what happened a year ago. The GST revision came into force on 22 September 2025, and the official CSD AFD portal still carries the notice that rates shown on it applied till 21 September 2025 and were revised from 22 September 2025 as per new guidelines. That is the cleanest paper trail we have for the switch date. Buyers who knew a cut was coming simply waited, so July to September 2025 was a thin quarter for billing. Compare this quarter against two years ago, not one, before calling it a boom.

The price lists have already started moving back up

For a buyer walking into a showroom this week, the more useful document is the dealer's dated ex-showroom price list, because the GST benefit is being clawed back in small steps. Skoda Auto India raised prices by up to 1.2 percent from 1 October 2026, capped at ₹20,000, citing rising input and operational costs. Autocar India's break-up of that revision puts the Kylaq up by as much as ₹15,588, with the Slavia, Kushaq and Kodiaq each going up by as much as ₹20,000. Skoda had already raised prices in January 2026, when the Slavia went up by as much as ₹34,000.

On this desk we see those revisions in dealer price lists and in CSD AFD rates before an official note lands, which is exactly why we label them. Until the maker confirms, a number doing the rounds on WhatsApp is leaked or expected, nothing more. Two things worth doing if you are buying now. Ask for the price list with the effective date printed on it, and get the on-road break-up in writing, since insurance and registration move separately from ex-showroom. If you are eligible for CSD AFD rates, check the portal yourself rather than trusting a forwarded PDF, since the portal sale was closed from 1800 hrs on 27 October 2026 per its own homepage notice and rates get refreshed around those closures.

The next real test is October retail data from FADA, which will show whether the festive dispatches actually left the showroom floor or are still sitting as dealer stock.
