Mahindra BE 7 spied in Mumbai, matches 2024 design filing

A fresh Mumbai spy shot of Mahindra's BE 7 test mule lines up closely with the shape the carmaker filed as a design registration in India back in January 2024, though the production name and launch date are still not confirmed.

What the photos show

Rushlane's spy shot from Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, dated 7 November 2026 and credited to Reddit user DemorganX, shows a fully camouflaged Mahindra BE 7 test mule carrying high precision GNSS receivers on its roof. Those receivers are fitted only to pin the car's position to the centimetre during test logging and will not appear on the production SUV.

Under the wrap, the Rushlane report notes automated flush door handles and frameless windows, which it says would make the BE 7 India's first mainstream car with that feature, a treatment so far seen here only on cars like the Mercedes CLA and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. The mule also carries a clamshell bonnet, large C shaped lighting elements front and rear, 19 inch wheels in angular claddings, a hidden rear washer and wiper, and a charging flap on the rear left quarter panel. Mahindra has shown a triple screen dashboard in earlier sightings.

A Rushlane sighting from near Mahindra's SUV Proving Track outside Chennai on 4 July 2026 had already caught the same frameless doors, strong C pillars and an upright, boxy silhouette, with dimensions matching the BE.07 concept's 4,565mm length, 1,900mm width, 1,660mm height and 2,775mm wheelbase.

From a 2024 design filing to a 2026 road test

Autocar India reported in January 2024 that Mahindra had filed design patents in India for three Born Electric SUVs, the BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09. The BE.07 filing already showed C shaped lights, an upright stance and fewer creases than the sportier BE.05, which went into production largely unchanged as the BE 6. A filing like this only shows the shape a maker has chosen to protect in India. It does not promise that the car will reach showrooms on any date, or at all.

Two years on, the shape the BE.07 filing described is close to what spy photographers keep catching on the road, which is the clearest sign yet that this design has survived into a near production prototype.

Mahindra has not confirmed BE 7 as the final name. Reports still refer to the model by its concept name BE.07, or by the internal code B07, following the pattern by which BE.05 became BE 6 in production.

What Mahindra has confirmed, and what is still expected

On an earnings call reported by Autocar India on 26 February 2026, Mahindra and Mahindra executive director and chief executive Rajesh Jejurikar said of the B07, "We believe the B07 will be a very big volume driver on top of what we are doing with our current three products." He placed the launch in 2027, a slip from an earlier internal target of October 2026.

Specs floated around the car, a 4.6 metre, five seat SUV pitched above the BE 6 against rivals like the Tata Harrier EV and the VinFast VF7, remain expected rather than confirmed. Rushlane's November sighting lists battery options of 59, 70 and 79 kWh, a claimed range near 700km with a real world figure closer to 500km, up to 282 bhp from a single rear motor with a dual motor layout possible, a 1400W, 16 speaker Harman audio system and Level 2 plus ADAS.

For Indian buyers this means a design that first surfaced as an IP India filing in 2024 is now visibly close to production, but the name, the final specification sheet and the exact 2027 launch window all still carry the label expected, not confirmed, until Mahindra says otherwise.
