BMW F 450 R and RR in India: wait, or buy the F 450 GS now?

BMW has officially revealed the naked F 450 R and the faired F 450 RR on the same 420cc twin as the India-built F 450 GS, but only the GS has an Indian price today, from ₹4.70 lakh ex-showroom.

If you want the adventure bike, buy it now. The F 450 GS is the only member of BMW's new 450 family on sale in India, launched on 24 April 2026 in Goa at ₹4,70,000 for the base, ₹4,90,000 for the Exclusive and ₹5,30,000 for the GS Trophy, all ex-showroom, with deliveries from June 2026. If you want the naked F 450 R or the faired F 450 RR, you are waiting on an India announcement BMW Motorrad has not made. Both have been revealed globally, on 1 October and 15 October 2026, and neither has an Indian price or date.

Waiting will not buy you more power

All three use the same 420cc parallel twin with a 135-degree crankpin offset, and BMW quotes 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm for every one of them. So the choice is body style and ergonomics, not performance.

The numbers that do change are the ones you feel at a traffic light. BMW lists the F 450 R at 175 kg ready to ride and the F 450 RR at 177 kg, or 178 kg with the Easy Ride Clutch. Both have a standard seat at 790 mm, with 775 mm and 810 mm seats offered. The GS, in the India release, has a two-piece seat at 845 mm. Service interval on the road bikes is 10,000 km.

RideApart points out what the F 450 R really replaces, the old G 310 R, a 313cc single making 34 hp. That is the jump on offer for anyone who waited out BMW's small-bike years.

What you give up by waiting

The GS is priced the way it is because, in BMW's own words, it "will be locally produced in India". The R and RR share the engine and much of the hardware, so a similar India price is plausible, but plausible is not official. The US MSRP for the RR M Sport is $7,815, per autoevolution, and that figure tells you nothing useful about an Indian sticker once duty, spec and local build are factored in.

Three other trade-offs are worth stating plainly.

First, variant availability. BMW offers four equipment levels for both the R and the RR abroad, and as Autocar India noted before the RR reveal, we will have to see how many reach India. The GS came here in three.

Second, ownership cover you already know. The GS is sold with a 3-year unlimited km warranty and a Service Inclusive plan for 3 years or 30,000 km. With an unlaunched bike, you are guessing at the package and at the price, and anything you pay in 2027 will be at 2027 prices.

Third, use case. If your riding includes bad roads, luggage and long days, the GS is the right tool and it is here. If you ride mostly tarmac, want 17-inch wheels and a lower seat, waiting for the R makes sense. If you want a track-day bike in the A2 class, the RR is the only one of the three built for it.

Who should sit tight

Buyers eyeing the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 or the KTM 390 Adventure now have a twin-cylinder BMW in the same conversation, and it is in showrooms. Buyers eyeing an Aprilia RS 457 for a faired twin have a reason to hold on a few months and see what BMW India announces. Treat every India date and price for the R and RR as expected until BMW Motorrad India says otherwise.
