Which Indian 4x4 brands run their own off-road drives for owners
Mahindra, Toyota and Land Rover all run factory off-road programmes in India, but they differ on entry cost, who supplies the vehicle and how often an event comes near you.

Force Motors GurkhaIf you want the factory to take you off-road after you buy, only a few brands in India actually do it, and they do it very differently. Mahindra runs the deepest calendar, with Trail Hunt rounds in small towns, weekend escapes, multi-day expeditions and a training academy. Toyota runs occasional regional expeditions under the Great 4x4 X-Pedition banner. Land Rover runs guided self-drive Defender Journeys and instructor-led Experience drives. Force and Isuzu, at the time of writing, do not list an owner event calendar on their official pages. So the badge you choose decides how often you get a trail with support vehicles and a marshal, and how much of it you have to organise yourself.
What each brand actually asks of you
Mahindra's Trail Hunt is the cheapest way in. It is listed as a beginner level navigation and strategy challenge, entry around ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 depending on the city, and it is open only to Mahindra 4x4 participants. That last line matters. A Bolero Neo or a 4x2 Thar will not get you a start. The 2026 rounds on the official challenges page sit in places like Jorhat, Meerut, Agartala, Silchar, Tinsukia, Jabalpur and Bongaigaon, which is useful if you are not in a metro.
At the other end, Mahindra's boutique drives and expeditions are quoted from roughly ₹75,000 to ₹1,95,000 for 5 to 9 day trips, and the arrive-and-drive option gives you a prepared Mahindra SUV if you do not own one. Toyota's Great 4x4 X-Pedition lists a registration fee of ₹20,000 per participant for a three-day format built around Hilux, Fortuner 4x4, Land Cruiser 300 and Hyryder AWD, with five regional editions held so far, from Sakleshpur to Guwahati.

Land Rover's Defender Journeys are the premium end. The programme lists nine routes and 23 journeys across India and beyond, including Ladakh, Spiti, Zanskar, Umling La, Kutch, the Thar desert, the Northeast, Bhutan and Nepal, over 6 to 9 days. You drive a petrol Defender 110 HSE automatic with a qualified instructor on the trip, the minimum age is 19 with a licence held for at least a year, and group size is capped at 10 guests across five vehicles. Prices are not published, which is itself a buying signal.

The trade-offs worth weighing before you sign
Frequency beats prestige if you plan to use the programme. Mahindra's spread of small-town rounds means a Thar or Thar Roxx owner in Jabalpur or Silchar can get two or three factory-run days a year without flying anywhere. A Fortuner owner waits for an edition to come to the region, and the X-Pedition editions listed are five across roughly a year of activity.
Vehicle risk is the second trade-off. On Mahindra challenges and Toyota expeditions you are usually in your own SUV, so your tyres, sliders and underbody take the damage, and your insurance conversation is yours to have. On Defender Journeys you drive a company-supplied vehicle, which removes that worry and adds cost.
Third, check what the programme does not cover. Mahindra's academy courses in Igatpuri and Chennai do not need you to own a Mahindra, so a Gurkha or D-Max V-Cross buyer can still get formal training before heading out with a club. Force's Gurkha World page carries owner expedition videos and its past Rainforest Challenge association, but no training calendar, so Gurkha buyers should budget for an independent school or a club-run day.
Buying advice in one line. If OEM events are a real part of why you are buying, a Mahindra 4x4 gives you the most days per rupee, Toyota gives you a polished but rare outing, and Land Rover sells you a holiday with an instructor rather than a club.
