Jeep unveils Wrangler Scrambler SRT concept, a 470 bhp desert pickup
Jeep's SEMA Show concept revives the 1980s CJ-8 Scrambler pickup as a 470 bhp desert racer with the Wrangler's first independent front suspension, built with input from off-road racer Casey Currie.

Jeep used the SEMA Show in Las Vegas to reveal the Wrangler Scrambler SRT concept on November 2. It is the first Jeep to carry the SRT badge, the performance brand Stellantis built on Dodge and Chrysler muscle cars, and the first Wrangler ever fitted with an independent front suspension instead of the solid axle the model has used since the CJ era. Tim Kuniskis, who heads SRT Performance and Direct Connection at Stellantis North America, framed it as what happens "when SRT stops treating the trail as the limit and builds the ultimate open air desert weapon," according to Motor1's report from the reveal.
The concept is a two door pickup with a short bed, reviving the shape of the Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler that American Motors built from 1981 to 1985. That original Scrambler was a CJ-7 stretched by ten inches and given a cargo bed, sold with engines as small as a 2.5 litre four cylinder, and only about 27,700 were built in the United States before it was dropped, according to reporting on the model's history. The SRT concept keeps the two door pickup silhouette but nothing else about it is restrained.

Under the hood sits a 6.4 litre Hemi V8 making 470 bhp and 470 lb-ft of torque, Motor1 reported after the reveal. The new independent front suspension was co-developed with American off-road racer Casey Currie and delivers 14 inches of front wheel travel, with a trophy truck style rear axle giving 15 inches at the back. The whole package rides on 37 inch tyres and bronze beadlock wheels, finished in a colour Jeep calls Punk'n orange, with a structural roll cage and a rear bench that folds or unclips so the bed can be used for cargo or a second row of seats. Autoevolution and Carscoops both describe the chassis as built for speed first and rock crawling second, the opposite priority of a standard Wrangler Rubicon.
Jeep has not confirmed a production version or a date, and both Motor1 and Carscoops stress that the concept's exact specification is not locked in for any future Scrambler. SRT concepts at SEMA have a history of previewing real Stellantis performance models, so this is a strong signal rather than a launch.
What it means for Jeep in India
Nothing here is for sale in India and nothing here will be soon. Jeep India currently assembles the regular Wrangler, in Unlimited and Rubicon trim, at its Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra, priced from about ₹66.20 lakh to ₹70.80 lakh ex-showroom, according to Autocar India's pricing page. There is no Gladiator pickup and no SRT model sold here, and India's emission and homologation rules make a low volume desert racer an unlikely import even if Jeep builds it for the US.
The value for Indian Jeep owners and for clubs that run Jeep Trails drives is what the concept says about where Jeep wants its off-road halo to sit: closer to a Baja truck than a rock crawler. If a production Scrambler SRT does arrive in the US in a year or two, it joins the same desert racing lineage that Dakar and King of the Hammers fans in India already follow from afar, just with a Jeep grille on it.
