What it costs to charge a Tesla Model Y in India, and where you can plug in

Tesla charges its Indian owners ₹24 per kWh at a Supercharger and ₹14 per kWh at an 11kW destination charger, but the car has a CCS2 port, so the whole public network and a home wall box are open to it too.

The short answer: at Tesla's own Superchargers in India you pay ₹24 per kWh, and at its 11kW AC destination chargers you pay ₹14 per kWh, with no complimentary charging for new buyers, as Autocar India reported when the fifth Tesla charging site opened at Nexus Seawoods mall in Navi Mumbai. Both networks are reserved for Tesla cars only, unlike several markets abroad where other EVs can use Superchargers. The Model Y sold here uses a CCS2 port instead of the American NACS plug, so every BIS-standard public DC charger in India will also work, and home charging stays the cheapest option by a wide margin.

The four ways to charge, in order of cost

Start with home charging. Tesla says it can install home charging across 28 states, and it delivers cars in 21 states, so a wall box at your parking slot is the base case rather than a luxury. A domestic connection in Bengaluru bills at the household slab, and BESCOM's own public chargers, when it revised rates from 1 August 2024, were set at ₹6.86 per kWh for normal AC, ₹7 for normal DC and ₹7.67 for fast charging. Those are the numbers to hold in your head when a 250kW Supercharger session at ₹24 per kWh feels expensive.

Second, Tesla's destination chargers. These are 11kW AC units, 14 of them when Autocar India counted in April 2026, at ₹14 per kWh. Slow, but useful if you are parked at a mall or hotel for a few hours.

Third, Tesla's Superchargers, 20 of them across five sites in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram at that count, rated up to 250kW. Tesla claims the Premium RWD gains about 238km of range in 15 minutes. You pay in the app, and Tesla operates and maintains the sites itself with no third party involved.

Fourth, third-party CCS2 chargers. Because the India-spec car takes CCS2, a Tata Power, ChargeZone, Statiq or Jio-bp pulse DC gun physically fits. Rates there are set by the operator, not by Tesla, and vary site to site.

What a full charge works out to

The Model Y Premium RWD, priced at ₹50.89 lakh ex-showroom after Tesla cut ₹9 lakh off the entry trim, carries a 64kWh pack and a 500km WLTP claim, and tops out at 175kW DC. On our own arithmetic, filling that pack's worth of energy at ₹24 per kWh is roughly ₹1,500, against roughly ₹450 at BESCOM's ₹7 per kWh DC rate and less at home. The six-seat Model Y L at ₹61.99 lakh claims 681km and charges at up to 250kW.

The practical rule is the same one that applies to any expensive EV in India. Do your daily charging at home overnight, use the Supercharger for highway runs and accept that you are paying for speed, not for electricity.

Bengaluru, and what is still missing

Tesla has said its next phase links Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai with Supercharger corridors on key highways, plus more destination chargers inside cities. It also told Autocar India it plans service and body shop facilities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Ahmedabad in the coming quarter, having started with experience centres in Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram and service in Delhi-NCR and Pune. Until a Bengaluru Supercharger is actually live, a Karnataka owner's fast charging is third-party CCS2 charging, at third-party prices and third-party uptime.

Before you sign, ask three things in writing. What the home wall box costs and whether installation beyond the standard cable run is extra, which city your car will be serviced in, and what the nearest Supercharger will be on the day you take delivery, not on the roadmap.

Good that CCS2 keeps the Model Y open to the regular public network, not locked into Tesla's own chargers like some markets abroad. Home charging still cheapest by far though. Anyone know if Goa even has decent third party CCS2 fast chargers yet, or are Model Y owners here stuck mostly on AC.
