The global overland show calendar, explained for Indian 4x4 owners

Four fixtures in the United States, Germany, Australia and Britain set the overland agenda every year, and each one needs a different amount of planning from India.

If you follow overlanding online from India, the same four events keep showing up in your feed: Overland Expo in the United States, Abenteuer & Allrad in Germany, the National 4x4 Outdoors Show in Australia and The Overland Event in Britain. They are not the same kind of thing. One is a five-stop American road show, one is a single giant European trade fair, one is a three-city retail show and one is a small British weekend that sells out in minutes. Knowing which is which decides whether you book a flight, a stall or just a magazine.

The four that matter, and how each one works

Overland Expo is the big American one, run as multiple editions a year. The flagship West edition ran on 15 to 17 May 2026 at Fort Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff, Arizona, with more than 400 brands on site, including roughly 100 first-year exhibitors, and gates open 9am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday. It is built around classes and demos as much as stalls, so the value is in the training, not just the gear.

Abenteuer & Allrad in Bad Kissingen is the European equivalent and is closer to a pure trade fair for expedition vehicles. The next edition runs 27 to 30 May 2027 with over 400 exhibitors from around the world, and the organisers say tickets go into the online shop from December. If you want to see European camper conversions, portal axles and roof tents in one place, this is the one trip to make.

Australia's National 4x4 Outdoors Show is the most familiar format for an Indian reader, because it is a consumer retail show with campers, caravans, accessories and demos. It moves between three cities each year.

The Overland Event in Britain is the opposite extreme. It is a small, motorcycle-leaning weekend with an Event Passport that covers all activities with no extra charges, plus free tea and coffee all weekend. Demand is the catch. The organisers said tickets for the 2026 Overland Gathering, held 3 to 6 September 2026, went in 17 minutes, the fastest sellout in eleven years. The same team raised money that paid for annual servicing of nine medical aid motorcycles in Nepal for The Gurkha Welfare Trust, which tells you what kind of crowd it is.

What this costs to follow from India

Plan around the ticket release, not the event date. Abenteuer & Allrad tickets open in December for a late May show, and a British gathering that empties in 17 minutes needs you watching the blog months ahead. Overland Expo sells single-day and full-weekend passes, and prices climb closer to the event, so late booking is the expensive way to do it.

The cheaper route is print and web. Overland Journal, the American title, comes out five times a year, with a Gear Guide plus Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter issues, and single copies at $16. Its back catalogue sells out, with the Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 issues already gone. Britain's OVERLAND magazine is a 112 page quarterly focused on travel by motorcycle, but it has paused production and is not accepting subscriptions, so do not go hunting for a current issue.

Australia's Unsealed 4X4 publishes free online, including show previews for the Perth and Adelaide 4WD events and technical pieces such as tuning the Isuzu 4JJ1 and 4JJ3 engines, which is directly useful if you run a D-Max V-Cross or MU-X here. For Indian coverage of the same subjects, Autocar India, Overdrive and Evo India's off-road section are the obvious free starting points.

The Overland Expo classes and demos angle is interesting, we don't really have that here, most Indian off road meets are just a convoy and some stalls. Wonder if any club in Goa could pull off something training focused like that instead of just another show and shine for mod rides.
