STG Tracker's custom Triumph Scrambler 400 X revealed on 18 October: high pipes, spoked wheels, stock engine
Argentine builder Marcelo Obarrio has turned a 2026 Scrambler 400 X into a proper old-school scrambler with a full stainless high-mount exhaust and a one-off spoked wheelset, and the base bike is the India-built 398cc single that sells here at ₹2.65 lakh.

Triumph Speed 400The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is one of the most customised small-capacity bikes in the world right now, and most of what gets done to it is bolt-on. The build published on BikeBound on 18 October 2026 is not. It comes from Marcelo Obarrio of STG Tracker in Argentina, it was a paid client commission, and the brief was simple. Make the 400 X look like a scrambler rather than a bike styled as one.
What was actually changed
Two things were non-negotiable for the customer, high pipes and spoked wheels. Obarrio built a full stainless steel high-mount exhaust system styled after the bigger Scrambler 1200 X, which is what gives the bike its raised silhouette. The harder job was the wheels. STG Tracker fitted a complete spoked wheelset, and adapting the hubs to the 400 X was the part the builder flags as the most difficult on the whole project. The original suspension was left alone.
Behind that, the rear subframe was shortened and given a new leather-upholstered seat with an LED taillight. The dashboard was moved to a side mount to clear up the cockpit, and there is a new high-mounted upper front fender. Paint is a grey base with a yellow nose, borrowed from Second World War fighter aircraft, sprayed by Taller Minissale, with photography by Japo Santos.
The engine was not touched at all, and that is deliberate. BikeBound lists it as the standard 39.5bhp single, kept stock for reliability. Triumph's own India launch figures for the Scrambler 400 X were 40hp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm from the 398cc liquid-cooled motor.
The base bike is an Indian product
This matters for anyone here reading it as a shopping list. The Scrambler 400 X is designed in Hinckley and built at Bajaj Auto's Chakan plant near Pune, and it launched in India at ₹2.63 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. Autocar India currently lists it at ₹2.65 lakh ex-showroom, or ₹2.87 lakh on-road in Delhi, in a single Standard variant.

It also already comes with a 19-inch front wheel, 100/80-19 and 140/80-17 tyres, 195mm of ground clearance and an 835mm seat height, so the hard geometry an Indian builder would want for a scrambler is there from the factory. What is not there is wire wheels or a high exhaust, which is exactly the gap STG Tracker filled.
Before you order the pipes
A full exhaust system and a different wheelset are the two mods most likely to get a bike stopped in India, and neither is a grey area in law. In Regional Transport Officer vs K. Jayachandra, decided on 9 January 2019, the Supreme Court held that a vehicle cannot be altered so that the particulars in its certificate of registration vary from what the manufacturer originally specified. Alterations are permitted under the Rules only to the extent Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act allows, and the rest needs the registering authority's approval noted on the RC.
In practice that means a replica of this build is a show bike or a private-property bike in India unless you take the exhaust and wheel change to your RTO first. The styling is worth copying. The paperwork is not optional.
