Mahindra Adventure has closed both of its late 2026 batches of The Lankan Odyssey, its boutique self-drive tour of Sri Lanka. The official event page lists the first batch as running 24 October to 1 November with registration shut, and the second batch, 14 to 22 November, as sold out. Both are priced from ₹1,95,000 per person on a sharing basis.

This is the arrive-and-drive end of the manufacturer adventure business. You do not need to own a Mahindra. You fly in, take the keys of a fleet 4x4 and drive it yourself in a marshalled convoy.

What ₹1.95 lakh buys on the Lankan Odyssey

The route covers about 1,620 km out of Colombo, through Mannar, Jaffna, Kuchchaveli, Pasikudah, Habarana and Kandy, then back to Colombo. Mahindra lists gravel, sand, mud and estuary crossings alongside coastal tarmac, so this is a touring drive with off-road sections rather than a trial.

Pricing rises with room and car sharing. The listed options run from ₹1,95,000 per person sharing, to ₹2,70,000 for a single room with a shared car, ₹3,70,000 for a team of two with one room and one car, ₹6,20,000 for a team of three and ₹7,20,000 for a team of four. The fee covers the expedition SUV, accommodation, all meals and beverages, radio sets, airport transfers and a doctor travelling with the convoy. It does not cover flights, visa costs, personal insurance, evacuation cover or fuel beyond the first full tank. That last line matters when you budget. Add airfare and about a week of diesel on top.

What is left of the 2026 calendar

The next expedition is the Blue Mountain Odyssey, 1 to 6 November, five nights and six days over roughly 768 km from Mysuru to Ooty to Madikeri and on to Bengaluru. It is listed at ₹75,000 for two people, including a Mahindra Adventure fleet SUV with fuel, Club Mahindra stays, all meals, marshals and sightseeing entry. Children under 10 travel free. Slots are listed as limited.

After that the calendar gets cheaper and closer to home. Paws & Drive at Kolad on 14 November starts at ₹1,000. The 4x4 Fundamentals day at Chennai on 21 November starts at ₹3,500, and the harder Getting Dirty day at the same venue on 28 November starts at ₹7,500. Sand Survivor at Jaisalmer on 4 December starts at ₹40,000, and the Sahyadri Odyssey at Tungi on 12 December starts at ₹75,000.

If you already own a Thar, a Thar Roxx or a Scorpio N, the training days are the better value. A single ₹3,500 fundamentals session in your own vehicle teaches recovery points, approach angles and low-range discipline that you cannot pick up on an estate trail with friends and a snatch strap.

Trail Hunt keeps pushing into the Northeast

The grassroots side of the programme has spent this season in the Northeast. Mahindra's challenges page lists Trail Hunt rounds completed at Bongaigaon on 8 August, Tinsukia on 22 August, Silchar on 12 September, Agartala on 20 September and Jorhat on 4 October, plus Jabalpur on 16 August and Meerut on 26 September. Entries start at ₹5,000 for most rounds and ₹6,000 for Jabalpur, and the format is open to Mahindra 4x4 vehicles only.

Trail Hunt is a treasure hunt on wheels rather than a mud bath. Teams follow clues between checkpoints inside a city and its outskirts. That makes it the softest possible entry for an owner who has never left tarmac, and it keeps the driving on marked ground rather than on riverbeds, forest tracks or beaches where you have no business being.

Lankan Odyssey sounds tempting but out of budget for now. Blue Mountain one starting right here from Mysuru is more my speed though. Anyone know if they let you take your own Thar on these or is it strictly their fleet SUV only, no exceptions.
