How to get into the world's big motor shows from India: public tickets, trade badges and what each costs
SEMA will not sell you a ticket unless you work in the trade, while Tokyo Auto Salon, the Japan Mobility Show, EICMA, the LA Auto Show and Goodwood all will, and most of them want the booking done before you leave India.

Car Culture, Shows & EventsThe short answer first. Of the big shows on the global calendar, almost all sell a normal public ticket online for the price of a decent dinner. The famous exception is the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, which is trade-only. And in Japan and Italy, there is no ticket counter waiting for you at the gate, so the booking has to happen while you are still in India.
SEMA is the one you cannot simply walk into
SEMA's own attendee FAQ calls it a trade-only industry event that is not open to the general public. The single public door is SEMA Show Friday, sold as a ticket through SEMA Fest. For a trade badge you register and upload proof that you work in the automotive aftermarket. Employees need one document from Group A, which is a business email on the company domain or a photo of an employee badge, plus one from Group B, which can be the company website, the two most recent check stubs, a business licence valid through the show dates, a tax registration certificate or invoices showing automotive purchases in volume. Business owners need only a Group B document. Accounting firms, law firms, software companies and consumers do not qualify.
For the 2026 show the badge fee rose in steps: $50 from 4 May to 26 June, $75 from 27 June to 25 September, then $100 until 6 November, with non-exhibiting manufacturers and suppliers paying $399. International attendees had to register online by 10 September 2026 to have the badge posted to them. Registration sends an automatic invitation letter, but the FAQ says visas are the attendee's sole responsibility, that SEMA will not contact embassies and that a visa delay is not grounds for a refund. Badge collection needs a government photo ID matching the name, and a copy or a phone photo is not accepted.

Japan sells digital tickets only, and none at the venue
Tokyo Auto Salon 2027 runs 15 to 17 January at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Friday is the business day, with public entry from 14:00 to 19:00 at ¥4,000. Saturday and Sunday cost ¥3,000 each. Tickets are digital only, and the official ticket page states that no paper tickets are sold, so you need the ticket on a phone or laptop. Elementary school children and younger go in free with a guardian.

The Japan Mobility Show follows the same logic. For the 2025 edition, an advance adult ticket was ¥2,700, same-day entry ¥3,000, after-4pm entry ¥1,500 and early entry ¥3,500, limited to 5,000 per day. Junior-high and high school students entered free. Tickets were sold online through partner agencies and at convenience stores, and the organiser said plainly that they are not sold at the venue.
Europe and the US: small ticket, early diary entry
EICMA 2026 at Fiera Milano Rho opened to the public from 5 to 8 November, 9:30 to 18:30, with 3 and 4 November kept for press and trade. Online tickets were €20 full price, or €15 in a launch promotion until noon on 15 September, plus a fixed €1.50 booking fee. EICMA warns that its own website is the only authorised sales channel, which matters if you find a reseller.
The 2026 Los Angeles Auto Show, 20 to 29 November at the Los Angeles Convention Center, priced an any-day adult ticket at $25, seniors and children aged 6 to 12 at $13, with under-6s free. Opening day was $20 for adults, weekdays $22, weekend priority entry $45, a family four pack $66 and a VIP guided tour $95. The show is cashless and tickets are bought online in advance.
Goodwood needs planning rather than money. The 2027 Festival of Speed runs 15 to 18 July, with tickets going to GRRC members on 31 October 2026, to Fellowship members from 2 November and on general sale from 9 November 2026. Fellowship membership includes 10 per cent off two tickets and grandstand passes. Parking is free with car parks open from 06:30, and admission tickets for children aged 12 and under are free but must be ordered in advance.
The order to do it in
Work backwards. Fix the show and check which days are trade or press and which are public, because a Friday badge at Tokyo Auto Salon buys you only the afternoon. Note the on-sale date, which for Goodwood is months before the event. Start the visa before you buy anything non-refundable, since none of these organisers will help with it. Then buy the ticket on the official site, save the digital ticket and the booking email offline, and carry the photo ID in the same name as the booking. The ticket is the cheapest part of the trip, so the real budget work is flights, the hotel in show week and your bank's forex markup.
