The short answer

There are two doors, and they work very differently.

The official Indian one is the F1 Sim Racing India Open, which Formula 1 has licensed to Mumbai Falcons Racing Limited. You register, set your fastest lap on F1 25 at home on PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox, and if the time is quick enough you are called to a city trial where everyone drives identical supplied rigs. From there it is a zonal qualifier, then the national final in Mumbai.

The other door is Gran Turismo. The Gran Turismo World Series qualifiers run inside Sport Mode in Gran Turismo 7, and entering costs nothing beyond the game and a PlayStation Plus subscription.

One thing to be clear about before you spend money. The F1 Sim Racing World Championship itself has no open entry. Formula 1 says nine teams, Alpine, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Haas, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, Racing Bulls and Williams, each field three drivers over 12 rounds across four events for a $750,000 prize pool. Those rosters are picked by the teams. A national title gets you noticed, it does not hand you a seat.

The India Open ladder, step by step

Autocar India lists the structure as three phases across 10 zones. Entrants submit their fastest lap within a 60 day window. The top 5,000 from each age group in each zone go through to the zonal qualifiers, and the quickest 50 juniors and 50 seniors per zone reach the national final. There are two categories, Junior for 10 to 14 year olds and Senior for 14 and above.

Registration is not free. The F1 Standard package is listed at ₹3,499 and F1 Elite at ₹4,999, with the Elite package adding priority qualifying slots and coaching discounts.

The city trials have travelled widely. The Delhi round ran at Bharat Mandapam from 30 July to 1 August 2026. The national final is set for the NSCI Dome in Mumbai in November 2026, with nine races for juniors and 12 for seniors.

Note what the format rewards. Because the deciding rounds are run on identical supplied rigs, a ₹2 lakh home setup buys you no advantage in the final. It only helps you practise enough to get there.

What the prize actually buys

AutoX reports a total prize pool of ₹2 crore across the competition, and says the overall winner gets a place in Mumbai Falcons Racing's One in a Billion Hunt, which carries a ₹3 crore Driver Development Fund.

Read that carefully. The reward is entry into a funded development programme, not a professional contract. Autocar India says the top 1,000 performers join the Agla Star programme, which runs through 4-stroke karts, then 2-stroke karts, then single-seaters. That is a real ladder, and it is also the point where costs usually start climbing for any Indian family in motorsport. A talent hunt that ends at the bottom rung of karting is still a long way from a race seat, so treat the funding promise as the thing to ask hard questions about.

The free route, and how narrow it is

Gran Turismo's 2026 Nations Cup qualifiers ran from 11 to 28 February over six rounds, with your best five results counting. Anyone aged seven or above in a participating region can enter from Sport Mode.

The catch is the slot count. Polyphony allocates the world finals places by region, and Asia, which includes India alongside Japan, gets one driver.

So the honest advice for a teenager with a wheel and a console is this. Enter the free qualifiers to find out where your pace really sits against the world, and use a paid national series only once you are already quick.
