How to buy a German tuner upgrade in India: TechArt, Brabus and the RTO
TechArt has an official importer in Bengaluru, Brabus and ABT do not, and that one difference decides what your guarantee is worth once the car is back on Indian roads.

Mercedes-Benz G-ClassOf the big German tuning houses, one has an official Indian address. TechArt, the Porsche specialist, lists TechArt India at 28, Lavelle Road, Bengaluru as the "official TECHART importer of India", a Porsche specialist dealership that does conversions, carbon fibre trim, performance upgrades and interiors, plus service, body and paint work. Its refinement programmes cover the Boxster, Cayman, 911, Taycan, Panamera, Macan and Cayenne. For Brabus and ABT, there is no comparable Indian workshop to walk into. Brabus runs a partner locator and says on it, "We deliver worldwide", so parts can be bought and shipped, but the fitting and the follow-up are your problem.
Start with the brand, not the body kit
Copies of famous kits are everywhere, which is why Brabus publishes a brand protection page calling counterfeiting a criminal offence and saying the only reliable route is an authorised Brabus showroom, an official partner or brabus.com. From the 2025 model year, genuine Brabus cars carry an NFC enabled spec plate tied to a digital product passport on the Aura Blockchain Consortium, and registered owners get a digital ownership certificate. Brabus supercars also come under a four year authenticity programme called the Masterpiece Guarantee. If a seller in India cannot show you that chain back to Bottrop, you are looking at a lookalike, whatever the badge says.
What the German guarantee is worth in India
Brabus gives a Tuning Guarantee covering the first three years or 100,000 km, and its page says it applies no matter where in the world you are. ABT is stricter. For cars ordered from 2024, the ABT warranty runs five years from first registration or 120,000 km, whichever comes first, and from months 24 to 60 each claim is capped at €15,000 gross. The upgrade must have been fitted by ABT Sportsline or an authorised partner, servicing must happen at a workshop recognised by both the carmaker and ABT, damage must be reported within three days of discovery and repairs need written approval first. ABT then lists the countries where the warranty applies: Germany, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Spain, Portugal, UK, Croatia and Romania. India is not on that list.

What the work actually costs, and what it gives you
TechArt's own press material gives the scale. Its TECHTRONIC power kit takes the 992.2 Carrera from 394 hp and 450 Nm to 504 hp and 550 Nm. The Magnum programme on the Cayenne E3.2 makes 930 hp and 1,100 Nm, with 0 to 100 kph in 2.96 seconds, and the Magnum First Edition is limited to 25 units. Prices are quoted in euros and net of tax: the GTstreet R Touring conversion for the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet was announced at €98,250 net, excluding tax, paint and installation. Add Indian import duty and GST on top of any part that has to travel.

The RTO step, and what changed in June 2026
A carbon lip is one thing. A wide body or a power kit changes the particulars the car is registered with, and that has to be endorsed on the registration certificate. Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules sets the fee for issue or renewal of a registration certificate for a non-transport light motor vehicle at two hundred rupees, and charges half that fee for recording an alteration, so the counter cost is small. The approval is the hard part. The Central Motor Vehicles (Ninth Amendment) Rules, 2026, notified on 9 June 2026, rewrote Rule 126 so that altered, retrofitted or adapted vehicles have to be tested and type approved by the specified testing agencies, or self certified by original equipment manufacturers, or self certified by workshops authorised by the State Government. A German approval paper does not substitute for that. Run the upgrade past the agency or an authorised workshop before the money leaves your account, because an unendorsed car is a non-compliant car.
