How the world motor show calendar works: which shows run every year, which alternate, and which have closed
Paris and Munich take turns, Japan's big show is every second year, the American and Thai shows are annual, and Geneva is finished: here is the running order, with the next set of dates.

Car Culture, Shows & EventsThe short answer: there is no single world motor show season. Europe's two giants take turns, with Paris in even years and Munich in odd years. Japan runs its big manufacturer show every second autumn, while the Tokyo Auto Salon tuning show comes round every January. The American shows, the Thai shows and SEMA are annual. Geneva, once the most important show in Europe, no longer exists.
That matters if you are booking flights from India. A show you miss in Paris is a two year wait, but a show you miss in Bangkok or Tokyo is back next year.
The running order, with the next dates
Tokyo Auto Salon is the first big one of the year, set for 15 to 17 January 2027 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The Detroit Auto Show follows on 14 to 24 January 2027. India's own Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2027 runs 4 to 9 February at Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi in Delhi.
Then the Bangkok International Motor Show, the 48th edition, from 22 March to 4 April 2027 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. IAA Mobility returns to Munich on 7 to 12 September 2027. The Japan Mobility Show is biennial, so after the 2025 edition that ran 30 October to 9 November with a record 522 exhibiting companies and organisations, the next one is due in 2027. Paris, which closed on 18 October 2026, comes back in October 2028 with a longer format across two weekends.
One warning for enthusiasts. The SEMA Show in Las Vegas, on 3 to 6 November 2026, is trade only. Its organisers run it as a business to business event and give media credentials only to automotive and powersports press, so there is no public ticket to buy.
Reveal shows and selling shows are not the same thing
European and Japanese shows are mainly about reveals and footfall. Paris 2026 drew 518,372 visitors in six days, ran 6,000 test drives at its own test centre, and issued 5,000 press and creator accreditations, half of them international.

Thailand works differently. At a Thai show you walk in, sit with a salesperson and book a car. The 47th Bangkok show recorded 132,951 car bookings and 2,056 motorcycle bookings, with 1,798,312 visitors. That is why Chinese brands fight so hard for a Bangkok stand, and why the show is a useful window for Indian readers into cars we do not get.

Why Geneva died, and what all this means in India
Geneva's 2024 edition had just 23 manufacturers, against up to 120 in its best years. The organising committee ended the Geneva editions in a statement reported on 3 June 2024, citing weak manufacturer interest and competition from Paris and Munich. A show lives or dies on whether carmakers think a stand is worth the money.
For an Indian buyer, the practical order of importance is the reverse of the glamour order. Bharat Mobility in February is where cars actually headed to Indian showrooms appear. Bangkok in March shows you the Chinese EV wave that India sees only in parts. Tokyo Auto Salon is the one to plan for if you modify cars. Munich and Paris are where you see concepts and global platforms, some of which reach India years later in a different form, and many of which never arrive at all.
If you are going, remember press days come first and are credentialed. Public days follow, and that is when tickets go on sale to everyone.
