How Hot Wheels Treasure Hunts work, and what a Super TH should cost in India
A Treasure Hunt is a deliberately limited mainline casting, a Super Treasure Hunt adds Spectraflame paint and rubber Real Riders, and Indian retailers put a genuine Super at ₹3,500 to ₹6,000.

Car Culture, Shows & EventsThe short answer first. A Treasure Hunt is an ordinary mainline Hot Wheels casting that Mattel deliberately makes in small numbers and mixes into normal shipping cases, so you find it on the same peg as the ₹149 cars. A Super Treasure Hunt is the rarer upper tier: it gets Spectraflame paint, rubber Real Riders tyres and a small flame-in-circle TH logo somewhere on the body. In India, the diecast shop Indian Diecast Hub puts a fair imported price at ₹600 to ₹1,500 for a regular Treasure Hunt and ₹3,500 to ₹6,000 for a Super, and says anything offered as a Super under ₹1,500 is almost certainly fake or damaged.
Two tiers, and how to read the markings
The collector database 164custom dates the line to 1995, when Mattel made 12 Treasure Hunts for adult collectors at 10,000 units per model worldwide. The two-tier system arrived in 2007, with the regular car on standard paint and plastic wheels and the Super on Real Riders and Spectraflame. From 2011 the count settled at 30 cars a year, 15 Treasure Hunts and 15 Supers, spread across the case letters A to Q with I and O skipped.

The markings changed as the line changed, which is why a single clue never settles it. Between 2007 and 2011 the Supers carried dollar signs in place of the S in "Trea$ure Hunt$". In 2012 the tiers got different castings and the Super wore a TH graphic. From 2013 the flame circle became the modern symbol, and from 2016 the flame is silver for a regular and gold for a Super. Since 2019 the symbol shows on the card as well as the car. Muncle Mike's guide to the line makes the useful point that a Treasure Hunt is a release designation and not a casting name, so you match the exact year, model, colour, tampos and wheels against a checklist rather than trusting the tyres alone. Other premium Hot Wheels lines also use rubber wheels.
What you should pay in India
A basic mainline car on the Indian card is cheap. The jump to collector pieces comes from import. Indian Diecast Hub lists imported mainlines on US cards at ₹449 to ₹599, premium Real Riders cars at ₹1,000 to ₹1,500, Supers at ₹3,500 to ₹6,000 and Red Line Club cars from ₹4,000 upward, and attributes the gap to customs duty of 20 to 30 per cent plus shipping and margin.

Checking before you pay
Mumbai retailer The Peppy Store has published the most practical checklist for Indian buyers, and it works just as well on a WhatsApp group sale. Look at the two rivets on the base first, since factory rivets are evenly peened and a full repaint needs the base opened. Then look for orange peel, brush marks or overspray in the paint, and for blurry or crooked tampos on a car that otherwise looks factory fresh. Confirm the Real Riders are rubber tyres on plastic hubs, and that swapped wheels do not wobble or rub. On a carded car, check for glue residue, a warped blister or uneven edges.
Muncle Mike's adds the discipline part. Photograph the base, both sides, roof, front, rear and wheels before you clean or open anything, keep the listing and the packaging, and ask the seller a direct question instead of assuming. One disturbed rivet or one odd wheel does not prove a fake on its own, because factory variations exist. If you cannot verify a claim, record it as unverified and price it that way.

Random one for a bike group but okay. ₹1500 cutoff for spotting fakes is useful info actually, wish there was something this simple for genuine vs fake RE spares. Anyone here actually collect these or just the odd impulse buy at the till?
