Front Runner's owner Dometic starts a SEK 425 million Americas restructuring and books a SEK 4,229 million impairment
On 22 October Dometic, the Swedish group that owns Front Runner, said it will shut three American factories and simplify its product portfolio, even as its European overland aftermarket grew 9 per cent.

Force Motors GurkhaIf you have a Front Runner Slimline rack on your Thar or a Dometic compressor fridge in the boot of a Gurkha, the company behind both had a rough quarter. On 22 October, Dometic published its third quarter report and, on the same day, announced a restructuring programme and a large write-down of goodwill. The press release and the report are both dated 22 October 2026.
What was announced
Dometic reported net sales of SEK 5,116 million for the July to September quarter, with organic growth of 3 per cent. EBITA before items affecting comparability was SEK 495 million, a margin of 9.7 per cent against 10.4 per cent a year earlier. The headline number, though, was a non-cash goodwill impairment of SEK 4,229 million, split as SEK 1,835 million against Land Vehicles, SEK 2,139 million against Mobile Cooling Solutions and SEK 255 million against Global Ventures. That pushed operating profit to SEK -3,936 million. The company says the impairment does not touch cash flow, EBITA or its leverage ratio.

The restructuring is the part that will actually change what reaches shelves. It is aimed primarily at the Americas region inside the Land Vehicles segment, and it covers capacity cuts, portfolio simplification and what Dometic calls a more selective channel strategy. Cost is SEK 425 million, of which about SEK 140 million hits cash flow, and the target is roughly SEK 215 million of annual savings once everything is done by the end of 2028. On the earnings call, management said three manufacturing units will be shut.

The split that matters for overlanders
The regional numbers tell the story. Land Vehicles grew 2 per cent organically overall, but that came from EMEA at plus 9 per cent and APAC at plus 1 per cent, while the Americas fell 8 per cent in a market management said was down 14 per cent. Global Ventures, the segment that sits closest to the outdoor and vehicle outfitting side, was down 6 per cent with an EBITA margin of 7.7 per cent. Management still flagged a new premium Front Runner roof rack series as a product bet for the coming year.
For an Indian buyer, the practical read is simple. Portfolio simplification means fewer part numbers, and the parts most likely to be cut are slow movers. If you are building a rack and drawer system around a specific fitment, buy the brackets and feet you need now rather than assuming the catalogue will look the same in 2028. India is served through dealers and e-commerce, so a channel change abroad does filter down here.
Where India's rules still bite
None of this changes the harder constraint on Indian overland builds, which is paperwork. A rack and a rooftop tent are bolt-on accessories within the roof load the maker allows. A fixed habitation body is a different animal. Caravans and campervans in India are type approved and certified under the AIS-124 and AIS-113 standards, under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, and must be registered at an RTO before any tourism registration follows. Goa's caravan tourism policy spells that out, along with a minimum feature list that includes a bed for two, a kitchenette with a fridge, a toilet with a hand shower, a 230V single phase system with an external plug point and GPS. The annual registration fee with the state tourism department is ₹1,000 per caravan.
ARAI has signed off on Indian motorhomes before. A Bengaluru built LuxeCamper on an Ashok Leyland chassis was approved to AIS-124 back in June 2020, and it needed a heavy vehicle licence to drive. That is the route if you want a real camper. For everything smaller, keep it bolted on, keep it inside the load limit, and keep the body as the RC describes it.
