BeamNG.drive v0.40 arrives on 19 October with PS5 launch at ₹1,831, split-screen for four and a new cab-over truck
The crash physics sandbox that built a decade of YouTube car destruction left the PC on 19 October 2026, landing on PlayStation 5 in early access alongside a v0.40 update that adds local split-screen and a 12.8-litre European semi truck.

Car Culture, Shows & EventsFor eleven years, BeamNG.drive has been a PC-only thing. You needed a desktop, a decent GPU and the patience to read a mod forum. That changed on 19 October 2026, when the German studio shipped version 0.40 and put the game on PlayStation 5 the same day, still labelled early access, exactly the status the Steam build has carried since May 2015.
On the Indian PlayStation Store the listing shows Rs 1,831 with a 19/10/2026 release date and support for 1 to 4 players offline. The Steam version sells for ₹1,100 in India, so the console route costs more, but it removes the part that keeps most Indian players out: the PC. BeamNG's minimum spec on Steam asks for 16 GB of RAM, a 6 GB card such as a GTX 1060 or RX 570, and 60 GB of storage. A PS5 in the living room clears all of that.
Split-screen, and a lot of it
The headline feature of v0.40 is local split-screen multiplayer, reachable from the main menu or the pause menu. BeamNG lists up to 4 players on PS5 and up to 64 players on PC, which says a lot about how the studio thinks about limits. Seven modes are included: Race, Drag Race, Pursuit, Derby, Drift, Rock Crawling and Soccer. Each player picks their own car, gearbox mode and driving assists.

There is also a walking mode now, with a player character the team calls Bob, and a physical occupant system that adds 89 kg per passenger to the car's weight. Load four friends into a hatchback and it drives like a loaded hatchback. For a game whose entire reputation rests on soft-body physics, that is the sort of detail that keeps people playing.

The Cherrier Percheron, and what it is modelled on
The new vehicle is the Cherrier Percheron, described by BeamNG as a full-size European cab-over semi truck from the early 2000s. The engine is a 12.8-litre turbocharged inline six making 310 to 500 hp, with a 12-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic. Frame lengths run from 6.17 m to 9.80 m, axle counts from 2 to 5, and the studio claims more than 50 unique chassis setups across small, large and XL cabs with sleeper options. The hydrodynamic retarder is quoted at up to 600 kW of braking force.
Indian players will recognise the shape. The flat-faced cab sitting over the engine is the layout of almost every truck on NH 48, and BeamNG's version lets you tip one over in slow motion, which is more or less the reason this game exists.
The fine print
Mods and VR are not supported on the PS5 version at launch. BeamNG says it is aiming for feature parity across platforms where possible in the long term, but will not confirm timing or scope. That matters in India, where the mod scene is where Indian content lives: local maps, local traffic, local trucks. For now that stays on PC.
The PC side also got real work in v0.40. New upscalers include DLSS, FSR 3 and 4 and XeSS, DirectX 12 VR arrives via OpenXR, native Windows on Arm binaries are in, and mod loading in one test scenario dropped from 3 minutes to 4 seconds. Three hotfixes followed quickly, with v0.40.3 on 22 October fixing a bug that could stop Career Mode from saving further progress and a memory leak in the interface.
