Triumph Bonneville 900 alternator connector overheats: the crimp fix
Triumph's second US recall on the same fault, campaign 26V078000, replaces the two-piece alternator connector on 8,849 Bonneville, Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900 motorcycles with crimped joints, which is the repair owners had already worked out for themselves.

Triumph Bonneville T100Three wires carry the alternator's output to the regulator on Triumph's 900cc twins. On 2022 to 2024 bikes they meet the main harness through a two-piece plastic connector, and that connector is now the subject of two separate recalls in the United States. Triumph's filing with NHTSA says the wiring between the alternator and the main harness connector may short circuit and overheat, and that overheated wiring raises the risk of a crash or a fire. RideApart's report on the campaign says the connector may smoke and damage what sits around it.

What the regulator's file shows
NHTSA's recall record for the Bonneville T120 lists three campaigns. The first, 23V146000, received on 6 March 2023, covered a left-hand brake disc that could detach. The alternator wiring came next as 24V785000, received on 21 October 2024, and the remedy then was a new wire alignment clip fitted free of charge under Triumph's number SRAN 627. The third, 26V078000, was received on 11 February 2026. This time dealers replace the two-piece connector body with a single in-line crimped connector for each of the three alternator wires, free of charge, under Triumph's number SRAN 641. The same record notes that bikes already repaired under the 2024 recall still need the new remedy.
The recall notice circulated for 26V078000 puts the population at 8,849 motorcycles: Bonneville T100, T120, T120 Black and T120 DGR, Street Twin, Street Twin Goldline, Street Scrambler, Street Scrambler Sandstorm, Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900, from the 2022 to 2024 model years. RideApart says Triumph told dealers on 18 February 2026 and wrote to owners from 24 February 2026, and that the suspect parts were made between January 2021 and December 2023.

The fix owners had already settled on
Owner-side evidence is thinner than the recall suggests. NHTSA's complaint database holds one complaint for the 2023 T120, from an owner who reported an odd noise at startup and said the hard part was finding a dealer to carry out the first recall. The 2023 Speed Twin 900 and 2023 T100 have no complaints logged.
Search results point to Triumph owner forum threads on melting alternator connectors, including a Speed Twin 900, where the repair owners favour is to do away with the plastic block and join the three wires with properly crimped and soldered terminals. Those forum pages would not open for us, so we are not citing them or quoting from them. What is on the record is that Triumph's own second remedy is a crimped in-line joint, which is the same idea.
When to let the dealer do it
If your bike falls in the recall years, do not cut the connector out yourself. The work is free, it is free again on bikes that already had the clip, and RideApart notes owners who paid for an earlier repair can claim reimbursement with receipts. A joint carrying charging current needs the right crimp and insulation, and a bad splice is exactly the fault being recalled.
In India, Triumph sells the Speed Twin 900 at ₹9.71 lakh ex-showroom and the Scrambler 900 at ₹10.25 lakh, with the Bonneville T100 and T120 above them. SIAM's voluntary recall portal lists Triumph Motorcycles (India) among its makers, but the page we read showed no recall entry for these models. Owners here should ask a Triumph dealer to run the VIN against SRAN 627 and SRAN 641, keep the job card, and watch for a burning smell or charging warnings near the alternator cover. If a dealer refuses, escalate to Triumph India customer care in writing and then to the National Consumer Helpline.
