Honda CityIn some engines, i-VTEC refers to the combination of traditional VTEC and Variable Timing Control (VTC), which uses cam phasing. In others, such as the L15A7 and R18A engines (from the city and civic) , there is no cam phaser at all — only VTEC. These engines are still badged i-VTEC for marketing consistency, leading many people to assume that all i-VTEC engines use cam phasing. That assumption is incorrect.
