Royal Enfield 350 owners get the missing gear indicator fitted free

Classic 350, Hunter 350, Meteor 350 and Goan Classic 350 bikes built after August 2025 went out with only a neutral lamp, and since July 2026 dealers have been fitting the sensor at Royal Enfield's cost.

If you took delivery of a Royal Enfield 350 in the past year and the console shows only a green N instead of the gear you are in, nothing is broken. The sensor that tells the instrument cluster which gear is selected was left out of the bike, deliberately, and Royal Enfield is now fitting it free.

What happened, and what Royal Enfield told dealers

Autocar India reported on 10 October 2025 that Royal Enfield had stopped fitting the gear position sensor on its 350cc J-series bikes, and that a dealer circular said bikes sold without the sensor would be equipped with one once component stock was available. The cause given was a shortage of rare earth material used in the sensor. Motorbeam reported on 13 October 2025 that only the 350 range was affected, that the bikes would ship with a neutral indicator instead, and that the company said retrofitting would be carried out as soon as supplies stabilised.

Royal Enfield's own support site still carries this in its FAQ section, describing the neutral indication system as a temporary step forced by supply constraints and promising that the sensor will be installed later.

A note on sourcing. The Team-BHP news page and the Reddit owner threads on this subject would not open from our end, so we have not cited them and we are not quoting post counts or dates we did not see. Everything below comes from pages we actually read.

The fix: one sensor, fitted at the dealer, at no cost

Rushlane reported on 21 July 2026 that installation had started, and quoted the company position that the full cost, including the component cost and installation charges, will be borne by Royal Enfield. Owners are being contacted individually, and the report says you can also check the Royal Enfield app or ask a service centre whether your bike is on the list.

BikeDekho, the same day, said the free fitment covers the Classic 350, Hunter 350, Meteor 350 and Goan Classic 350 manufactured after August 2025, that eligibility is confirmed against the bike's VIN, and that not every bike from that period automatically qualifies. The Bullet 350 is outside it because that model never had the feature. SoloRiderz reported on 22 July 2026 that the rollout is running across the authorised network, that some dealerships are calling affected customers themselves, and that owner forum discussions show dealers actually doing the job.

Do not try this one yourself

This is the rare case where there is no argument for a local workaround. The missing part is a sensor inside the bike's gear mechanism, Royal Enfield is paying for both the part and the labour, and an aftermarket gear display bought online gets you no warranty and no record of work. Spending money here makes no sense.

What an owner can do. Check your invoice or job card for the manufacturing date, then take the VIN to an authorised service centre and ask whether your chassis number is covered by the gear position indicator fitment. Ask for the retrofit to be written on the job card, with zero charged against parts and labour, so you have proof later. If a dealer asks you to pay or says it is not available, Royal Enfield's listed customer support line is 1800 210 0008, open 9 am to 9 pm, roadside assistance is 1800 210 0007, and queries can go to support@royalenfield.com. If that goes nowhere, the next step is a written complaint to the National Consumer Helpline at consumerhelpline.gov.in.

Over to the club. If your 350 came with only the neutral lamp, has your dealer called you yet, and did the gear display work properly after fitment?

Rare earth shortage hitting a gear sensor is odd, my S1 Pro's motor magnets use the same stuff and nobody's talking shortage there. Good that RE is fitting free though, shows at least they're owning it instead of just living with the N lamp forever.

Good to know RE is eating the install cost too, not just the part. Mine's a Classic 350 but bought before this window so not affected I think. Still curious what the sensor itself costs as a spare, would help gauge how big a freebie this actually is.
