Adventure Cars & BikesMost Indian riding clubs run on a WhatsApp group and an Instagram handle, and that works until money and contracts enter the picture. The moment a club collects annual fees, opens a bank account in the club name, takes sponsorship or signs a venue agreement for a meet, somebody asks for registration papers. In Karnataka the usual route is a society under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960.
The short answer: get seven members above 18 to sign a memorandum of association and a set of rules, file them with the District Registrar of Co-operative Societies for your area with the prescribed fee, and expect the process to take up to 30 days. The fee is ₹1,000 if the society sits inside Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority limits and ₹500 in any other area, with a scanning fee of ₹35 per page. Women's societies and SC or ST societies pay half the prescribed fee, so a women riders' club registering in Bengaluru pays the concessional half of that ₹1,000.
What you file, and what it costs
The Act lists the purposes a society can be registered for, and "promotion of sports" is one of them, which is the slot most riding and motorsport clubs use. Section 3 also requires that the rules prohibit any dividend or distribution of income or profits among members, so club fees and event surpluses have to go back into the club, not into the core team's pockets.

The paperwork set is information in Form A, the memorandum of association and bye-laws, the executive committee list with photographs, the proceedings of the first meeting at which the club was formed, the fee challan, a notarised affidavit on ₹20 stamp paper, identity and address proof for the signatories, and address proof for the registered office with an NOC from the owner if the premises are rented. Karnataka's Department of Co-operation points applicants to its online society registration portal, so most of this is uploaded rather than carried to a counter.
Who signs, and what the memorandum must say
Section 4 is strict about numbers. A society that does not consist of at least seven persons above 18 cannot be registered. Section 5 lets any seven or more such persons form a society by subscribing their names to the memorandum. Each subscriber signs with address, description, age and occupation, in the presence of at least one witness who attests the signature.

The memorandum carries the club name, its objects, the names, addresses and occupations of the governing body, and the location of the registered office. The rules filed alongside it have to cover admission of members, meetings and voting. For a riding club, that is where you settle the questions that split clubs later: who votes, how ride leaders are chosen, how a member is removed.
What registration commits you to every year
Registration is not a one time job. On or before the fourteenth day after the annual general meeting, the society must file a list of the names, addresses and occupations of its governing body, along with audited accounts, with the Registrar. Late filing carries fines of ₹50 to ₹100 depending on the delay. Changing the memorandum later needs a special general meeting where votes in favour outnumber those against three to one, confirmation at a second meeting 30 days on, and filing within 30 days. A change of name or rules costs ₹250 under the same fee table.
Fees and portal steps change, so confirm the current figures with your District Registrar before you pay.
