BMW integrated brake system faults: a 2026 US recall calls back 428 cars that were already repaired
BMW's Integrated Braking System fault has now produced four US recall campaigns, the newest one covering cars that had already been through the earlier fix, and marque forum threads show how long owners waited for parts.

BMW 5 Series LWBBMW's Integrated Braking System problem has not gone quiet. The company told investors about it in September 2024, dealers stopped handing over cars, and the US regulator's file now carries a fourth campaign on the same system, opened in 2026. Some of the cars in that newest campaign had already been repaired once.
What owners describe, and where
We could open one marque forum thread in full, in PistonHeads' BMW section, titled "BMW Delivery Stop Aug 2024", with posts running from 30 August to 13 October 2024. The reports there are mostly from buyers whose new cars were sitting at dealers undelivered, with no firm date for the brake part. Members paraphrase their dealers giving parts windows of "end of September to early October", one mentioning a date as far out as February 2025, and several say the dealer could not explain the fault at all. Owners also complain about depreciation while the car waits and about weak communication from BMW.
Search results show three more threads on Bimmerpost, in the X5 and X7 sections, titled "LCI safety recall. Integrated Break system", "Aug 9 2024 Integrated brake system recall" and "Urgent Safety Recall. Integrated Brake System". Those pages would not open for us, so we are not quoting them or counting posts. These are owners' reports, not verified failures.
On what a driver actually feels, BMWBlog's report on the October 2024 expansion says a warning message appears in the cluster and the car drops into a default safe mode with more resistance at the brake pedal, which lengthens stopping distances.
What BMW and NHTSA say
BMW Group's own statement of 10 September 2024 is unusually blunt about scale. It says the guidance cut was triggered by delivery stops and technical actions linked to the Integrated Braking System supplied by a supplier, that the actions impact over 1.5 million vehicles, and that warranty costs in the third quarter would run to a high three-digit million amount.

The US filings fill in the detail. Recall 24V-104 covers 266,716 vehicles, with dealers replacing the integrated brake system free of charge and owner letters mailed between June and December 2024. The model list runs across 2023 to 2025 X1, X2, X5, X6, X7, XM, 530i, 740i, 750e, 760i and i7, plus Mini Cooper, Cooper S and Countryman and the Rolls-Royce Spectre. A separate campaign, 24V-697, covers 309 vehicles where welds in the servomotor of the brake control module may break, costing power assist and rear brake function.
Then it repeats. Recall 24V-739 covers 11,579 vehicles and states plainly that these cars were previously repaired under 24V-104 and need the new remedy. Campaign 26V-422 covers 428 vehicles, with the brake system to be inspected and replaced if necessary, owner letters expected from 21 August 2026, and the same note that cars repaired under 24V-739 or 24V-104 must come back.

What an owner in India should do
BMW India sells most of the affected lines, including the X1, X5, X7, 5 Series LWB, 7 Series, i7, XM and the Mini Cooper and Countryman. BMW's statement names no markets, and we found no India-specific recall notice for this system, so the only reliable answer comes from your car's VIN.
Ask your dealer, in writing, whether any Integrated Braking System campaign applies to your VIN, whether it has already been carried out, and which part number went in. Keep the job card. If a brake warning appears and the pedal turns hard, treat it as a brake fault and call roadside assistance rather than driving on. For escalation, use BMW India customer care first, then MoRTH's Vehicle Recall Portal on Parivahan, which exists for owners to report defects, and the National Consumer Helpline on 1915.
Owners of these cars in the club: has your dealer ever mentioned a brake system campaign on your VIN?
