Winter in Kutch is the one trip I keep nudging my AX7 L diesel towards, and this is the shape of it in my head.
Ahmedabad to Bhuj on the four lane, sleep there, then Bhuj to Khavda and out across the causeway road to Dholavira. Keep an evening free for the white Rann at Dhordo.
For Dhordo you need an online entry permit, and Gujarat Tourism points you to rannpermit.gujarat.gov.in to get it. Carry the original ID you uploaded, because the checkpost past Bhirandiyara does look.
On the car side, salt dust and crosswinds are the real story out there. I would set tyre pressures cold rather than after 200 km of highway, sort out the spare and the cabin filter, and tank up before Khavda since fuel options thin out.
If anyone has driven the Dholavira causeway, tell me how lane keep behaves where there are basically no lane markings.
