Ladakh is now charging real money for a wrong turn, and I think that's fair

Our newsroom put up a piece on where off-roading actually stands in Ladakh, and it's worth ten minutes of your evening: Is off-roading legal in Ladakh?

What stuck with me is the enforcement side. The Tribune reported an SUV driver fined ₹50,000 near Man village at Pangong under the Wildlife Protection Act, with a hundred ex servicemen now deployed as an Environment Protection Force issuing challans on the spot.

Honestly, I'm relieved. My Thar sits on 265 all terrains and the temptation to drop onto a flat pan is real, but that crust takes years to come back. I'd rather park on the formed track and walk.

Those of you who have driven up there since the force came in, are the boundaries actually marked on the ground, or is it still guesswork once you leave the blacktop?

Bheem, ₹50,000 is steep but fair, maybe that finally kills the flex videos on the pans. Haven't taken my Thar up there myself so can't comment on ground markings, but curious if this Environment Protection Force covers Nubra side too or just Pangong. On all terrains the torque makes those flat crusts look way too tempting, that's the real risk.
