Snorkel on the Thar: worth the roofline, or just for the look?

Been noticing more raised air intakes going onto Thars built for serious water crossings, so let's open this up properly.
A snorkel moves the intake point up to roof level, so a splash that could stall the stock inlet becomes far less likely. Zigwheels has a short answer confirming it can be fitted on the Thar without needing RTO sign off, unlike a lift kit or a bumper change: https://www.zigwheels.com/newcars/faqs/can-the-mahindra-thar-be-equipped-with-a-snorkel/2670937/
My own hardtop still runs the stock intake. The trails I do rarely have crossings deep enough to justify the cut into the fender, and I'd rather keep that panel stock for now.
The trade off nobody mentions enough is the extra intake drone at idle, and a badly sealed unit can actually let more water in than it keeps out if the clamps aren't checked each season.
Has anyone in the Tribe actually fitted one, and did your installer route the wiring harness clear of the cut line?
