The water-in-fuel lamp: has anyone in the Tribe actually seen it light up?

I went digging through the Thar owner's manual last night for something unrelated and got stuck on one line. There is a water-in-fuel warning lamp, and it says the lamp comes on once water in the fuel filter reaches the maximum permissible limit, at which point the filter needs to be drained. The manual even lists a wrench in the factory toolkit meant for that water drain.
Which makes me feel a bit silly, because I have never once touched it. My LX 2.2 gets fed at the same two pumps in town, then on a trail weekend I cheerfully fill from whatever bunk is nearest the trailhead.
So, honest question to the Tribe. Has that lamp ever come on for any of you? Did you drain it yourself with the toolkit wrench, or hand the key to the service centre? And what did the engine feel like before the lamp bothered to tell you anything.
