Brake fluid change on the Thar, going by km or by year?

Manual says 1 year or 40,000 km whichever is earlier, then every 80,000 km after. Mine's nowhere near 40k but it's been over a year with all this monsoon humidity in Mysuru, and brake fluid pulls moisture from the air anyway. Saw an old thread on Team-BHP where guys just go by the two year rule regardless of odometer. Anyone here actually getting it changed early because of the rains, or sticking strictly to the manual's km figure? Curious what the brake feel was like before and after.
