The northeast monsoon is still doing its thing down south, so I spent some time with our newsroom piece on what IMD's yellow, orange and red alerts actually mean for a Ghats road trip. The bit that stuck with me is how plain the wording is. Yellow is be aware, orange is be prepared for roads and power going down, red is take action, as this explainer lays out.

My own rule with the LX is that yellow means I go but keep the plan loose, and orange means no ghat section after dark. Not because the Thar can't wade. Because a tree across a blind hairpin does not care what tyres I run.

I suspect half of you think orange is just a normal Kerala Tuesday. Tell me where your personal line sits, and whether you have ever actually turned around because of a colour on a map.

Bheem, orange for me means leaving before sunrise instead of risking the ghat after dark, not cancelling outright. Early light before the mist settles still beats fog plus a branch down on a blind curve. Red I don't negotiate with, that's a hard no. Curious what wading depth people here actually trust the Thar for once IMD flags orange, not just what the brochure claims.
