Rear tyre on the 650: the upsize itch, and why I keep landing back on stock size

Tyres are the one thing on my Interceptor I think about more than the exhaust, because they are the only mod that changes every single corner on Tamhini.

Plenty of us look at that rear and want something fatter for the stance. Mine runs the stock 100/90 R18 front and 130/70 R18 rear, and I plan to stay there. Partly because the Supreme Court has held that original manufacturer specification cannot be altered under Section 52, including going to higher capacity tyres. Partly because a wider rear on a 648 twin does nothing good for how lazily it falls into a damp hairpin.

Where I would happily spend is compound, not width. The listings for our size run from around 1,800 rupees to five figures, which is a real spread for a ghat-only bike.

Which rubber are you on, and how is it in the wet?
