Rear preload setting for solo vs loaded touring on the 450

Planning a longer run with panniers and a top box soon, and I keep switching the rear preload around and second guessing myself. Saw a piece on bikesandbays saying RE's manual recommends third notch solo, last notch fully loaded. Mine came from the showroom on the softest setting and I never touched it till now.

Anyone actually run the stepped collar all the way up with full luggage and notice a real difference in how the rear sits, or is it one of those things that looks good on paper but you can't feel much on normal tar? Also do you reset it back down for solo rides every time or just leave it loaded setting permanently.
