Buying a used Creta diesel, how worried should I be about DPF history?
@irfan_nair · 1 week ago
Was reading that Team-BHP piece where the owner had four separate DPF encounters on his diesel Creta, turbo got swapped twice too. https://www.team-bhp.com/news/my-hyundai-creta-diesel-4-encounters-dpf-issues-my-learnings
Thinking of picking up a used diesel Creta for my early morning hill runs, mostly steady speed stuff not city crawling. But now I'm second guessing. Does anyone actually ask for DPF regen history before buying used, or check service book for oil type used. Petrol owners here, did you avoid diesel just for this reason or is it overblown for someone who drives it properly daily.

Irfan, I'm petrol so can't speak for diesel specifics, but the service book check should be standard practice either way. Four DPF encounters and two turbo swaps in that thread you linked is a proper red flag, not overblown. I'd ask the seller for actual workshop job cards, not just "it's fine now" talk. Steady hill runs should help versus city crawl though, less soot buildup in theory.

Irfan, no car experience here, just RE guy, but even on bikes dealers try to fudge service book entries during warranty claims. If the Creta seller can't produce actual job cards like Ananya said, that itself tells you something. Does the DPF regen count show up anywhere in the infotainment logs or only in workshop records?
