Half the paddock chat at any track day ends up being about cans. We all agree the stock unit sounds flatter than the engine deserves, and the aftermarket here is full of pretty stainless slip-ons with a db killer thrown in the box.

What surprised me when I went reading is how little grey area there actually is. Above 175cc the ceiling is 80 dB(A), measured half a metre from the outlet, and a slip-on that does not match your RC needs an RTO endorsement under Section 52 to be road legal. This explainer lays out the limits and the penalty range. "Street legal" on a product page means nothing on its own.

My Electronic Orange is still on the stock can, mostly because I would rather spend that money on sliders and chain care. Baffle stays in either way.

So, who here actually got the endorsement stamped?
